Building a Pickleball Court from scratch – New Glarus, Wisconsin

Building a New Glarus pickleball court

We received an email with this photo journal of a new pickleball court under construction.  Enjoy!

I thought that you might have some interest in our story. My partner Paula and I had spent a few days visiting our best friends in Casa Grande, Arizona the last couple of winters. They introduced us to pickleball while we were there and we were hooked. We debated about putting in our own court last year and decided against it. Upon returning from Arizona last Spring, we couldn’t hold out any longer and went forward with our own court in New Glarus, Wisconsin.

It could not have gone smoother.

We broke ground in early May.

In July we had Kirk Lingner from Illinois come up and stay with us for 3 days and do the prep work, painting and lines.

He did an awesome job.

  1. We love Puempels in New Glarus and a great place to enjoy a beverage after pickleball ! We play quite a bit of pickleball in Utah and glad to see its gaining fans in Wisconsin! I’m a cheesehead by birth and visit family and Packer games when I can. Have fun with the new court ☀️

    • Not sure what that has to do with the painting of the lines. Don’t remember. But I do know everything’s done to specifications.

    • Thanks for your interest. I put 8″ of gravel down first. Watered it in for a couple days to help settlement and then pored 4″ of concrete. Made it through the Wisconsin winter great. Still looks brand new.

  2. Very Cool What type of paint did you use for the lines. We have a pickle ball court in our backyard. We live in South Jordan, UT, but the paint keeps chipping off. Didn’t know if you used a special type of paint. Thanks
